Why We Do What We Do | Enthusiasm Character Time Activity
Enthusiasm is: “Expressing joy in each task as I give it my best effort.” This means to have a good attitude and do your best in every situation.
Supplies Needed:
A large, non-transparent bag
A trophy or award (representing recognition)
Money (representing payment)
Googly eyes (representing trying to impress someone who is watching us)
Ruler (representing trying to measure up)
Bible
Before you begin, put all the objects in the bag except the Bible. Let your child take an object out of the bag and discuss the reason it represents why people might have enthusiasm and do their best. Do this for each object as they take it out. Once they have gone through all the items in the bag, show them the Bible and read Ephesians 6:7-8 with them (see also Colossians 3:23-24 and 1 Corinthians 10:31). Ask them why, according to the verses, they should do their best.
Talk About It: When we do a job, we shouldn’t show enthusiasm and do our best just because someone is watching us or because we are going to get a reward. We should do our best because we are doing that job for God and He wants us to do our best for Him. We might get recognition or a reward from people, or we might not, but that isn’t what matters. What matters is doing our best to bring God the glory. This could look like doing the job neatly and carefully while giving it our undivided attention. When you have a job to do, show enthusiasm by doing your best for God to bring Him glory.
