Telephone Game | Attentiveness Character Time Activity
Attentiveness is: “Showing the worth of a person or task by giving my undivided attention.” This means that you can show that someone or something is important by paying close attention to them.
Have everyone sit in a circle. Begin by whispering instructions into the ear of the person next to you, such as “pat your head and rub your stomach” or “stand up and clap three times.” That person will then whisper the instructions to the person next to them–and so on until the message has gone all the way around the circle. The last person to receive the message will do whatever instructions they are given. See if what they do is the same as what you whispered at the beginning.
Talk About It: In the game, you had to listen carefully to the instructions you were given. When you did this, you were showing attentiveness. It is important that we not only ask good questions but that we also listen closely to the answers we are given. If we don’t listen to the answers, we may not get the information we need and could do things incorrectly. This may have happened when you were playing the game. If the message didn’t get passed correctly, the last person wouldn’t do the right actions. Each person had to be showing attentiveness in order for the message to get around the circle without being changed. You can practice attentiveness when you ask a question by looking at the person while they are answering you and repeating the answer back to them to help you remember it.
