It’s Too Much! | Humility Character Time Activity

It’s Too Much! | Humility Activity

Humility is “Recognizing my proper place in relation to God and others.” This means not thinking of yourself as better or as less important than others, and instead of focusing on yourself, choosing to focus on God and others.

Supplies Needed:
A lot of balls, stuffed animals, and other toys that aren’t easily broken (too many for your child to hold all at once)

Tell your child that the items represent the credit/praise that people give them for doing something. They must try to hold it all as you start giving them items one at a time. Keep going until they start dropping things. Once this happens, take the items back. Tell your child that they’re going to do it again, but this time they can hand some of the items they receive to others. Continue until you run out of items.

Talk About It: When you tried to hold on to everything by yourself, you just ended up dropping it. When we take all the credit for everything we do, we end up becoming prideful, and the Bible warns us about pride. It says in Proverbs 16:18 that “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” Rather than taking all the credit for ourselves, we can give credit to others who have helped us by teaching us how to do something or by helping us get it done. This shows humility because we are thinking about the other people who have helped us rather than thinking about ourselves and our accomplishments. You can practice showing humility by thanking someone when they teach you something new or help you.
