What Do You Value? | Attentiveness Character Time Activity
Attentiveness is: “Showing the worth of a person or task by giving my undivided attention.” This means that you can show that someone or something is important by paying close attention to them.
Supplies Needed:
Something that’s special to each of your children
An item that is valuable or special to you
Tell your child to go get something that is special to them and bring it back. Ask them why it is special to them and how they treat it because it is special. Then, show them your item. If it is valuable, explain what makes it valuable, or tell them why it is special to you. Talk about the difference between how they treat something that is valuable/special and something that isn’t.
Talk About It: We show we value something by how we treat it. If we take special care of something, it shows that we value it. This is true of people as well. We show that we value and care for others based on how we treat them. If we had a toy we really cared about, we wouldn’t treat it poorly but would take good care of it. Even more importantly, we shouldn’t treat people poorly but with value and respect. A way we can do this is by being attentive to them. We can show attentiveness to others by stopping what we are doing and looking at them when they are speaking to us, showing interest in what they are saying, or doing something kind for them. Show value to someone in your life by writing them a kind and encouraging note or drawing them a picture.
