Real vs. Fake | Truthfulness Character Time Activity

Real vs. Fake | Truthfulness Activity

Truthfulness is: “Earning future trust by accurately reporting past facts.” This means that when you are honest and tell the truth about things that have happened, people will know they can trust you now and in the future.

Supplies Needed:
Real items and their corresponding fake item such as:
-a piece of real fruit and fake or decorative fruit
-a live pet and a stuffed animal
-real money and play money, such as Monopoly money
-a real plant and a fake plant

Go through each pair of items with your child and ask them which one is the real thing and which one is a copy or is fake. Ask them how they know which one is the real one.

Talk About It: You can recognize that something is fake when you’ve experienced the real thing. If you have a dog, you know that a stuffed animal dog isn’t the same as a real one. If you didn’t know what a real dog was, however, you wouldn’t know how to tell if something was a real dog or not. Similarly, we can learn to recognize lies more easily by studying the truth. The more truth we know, the easier it will become to spot a lie. It’s important for us to be able to distinguish between the truth and lies so that we don’t believe lies or accidentally say something that isn’t true. Practice spending time with the truth by memorizing a Bible verse together. You can choose one of your favorites or one of the ones listed below.
John 17:17, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”
Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
John 8:32, “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Psalm 34:13, “Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit.”
1 Corinthians 13:6, “does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;”
