How Can It Be Stolen? | Truthfulness Character Time Activity

How Can It Be Stolen?| Truthfulness Activity

Truthfulness is: “Earning future trust by accurately reporting past facts.” This means that when you are honest and tell the truth about things that have happened, people will know they can trust you now and in the future.

Supplies Needed:
A non-transparent bag that will fit all the items listed below
A small clock or watch (stealing someone’s time)
A toy (stealing someone’s toys or belongings)
A DVD or CD (pirated movies or music)
A piece of homework or schoolwork (stealing answers and cheating on schoolwork)
A medal or trophy (cheating at a sport)
A slip of paper with the word “reputation” written on it (harming someone’s reputation by speaking badly about them)

Have your child pull one item out of the bag at a time. As they pull each item out, discuss with them how each thing could be stolen. You can look at the supplies list for some examples.

Talk About It: There are many ways to steal besides taking an item that belongs to someone else. When we steal, we are not being honest. Rather than working for something, stealing is trying to get something by taking it from someone else in a dishonest way. This hurts those around us, but it also hurts us because people will no longer trust us. We need to make sure we are not taking anything that belongs to someone else, like their time or hard work. One way to do this is by not cheating. When we cheat on a test, we are stealing the answers, time, and effort someone else put into studying for the test. Another way to not steal from others is to be on time. When we are late, we take time away from the person waiting for us. We also need to be careful with how we talk about others. If we speak badly about someone, it can harm or take away their good reputation. This week, show truthfulness by not taking anything that belongs to someone else, whether it’s their toys, time, or something else.
