Hiding Animals | Forgiveness Character Time Activity

Hiding Animals | Forgiveness Activity

Forgiveness is: “giving up feelings of anger and bitterness against those who offend me, and not holding a grudge.” This means letting go of being angry or upset with someone for something they did to you or to someone you love. It doesn’t always mean that your relationship is restored, but you are choosing not to stay upset or let what they did affect you in a bad way.

Lay the blanket out on the floor. Try to get it as smooth and flat as possible. Next, have your child hide the stuffed animals by placing them in a pile under the blanket. The animals will no longer be visible, but there will be a large lump in the middle of the blanket. Have your child try to smooth out the blanket and see if they can make the lump go away. Then help your child lift the blanket up and remove the stuffed animals from underneath. Let them try to smooth out the blanket again now that the animals are gone.

Talk About It: When you tried to hide the stuffed animals under the blanket, you might not have seen them, but you couldn’t get rid of the lump in the blanket. The only way to get rid of the lump was to remove the animals from underneath. Similarly, when we do something wrong, we might want to try and hide it, but hiding the problem won’t make it go away. When we do something wrong, no matter how big or small it might seem, we need to ask for forgiveness. It’s important that we do the right thing whether the person we’re asking forgiveness from chooses to forgive us or not. If you have done something wrong and have not asked for forgiveness, go and apologize to that person before the end of today (if you can).

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

James 5:16
